About Me
I've been playing guitar for 17 years and playing/recording music professionally for 13 years. I started playing guitar at 11, and started getting my first paying gigs at 15. Since then I have lived and performed regularly in Southern New Mexico, Chicago, IL, and Austin, TX (where I am currently located). I've played with a variety of bands and musicians, including well-known artists such as John Baggott (Robert Plant, Massive Attack, Portishead), Rob Mazurek (Exploding Star Orchestra, Chicago Underground, Pharoah Sanders), Little Ed (Chicago Blues star), Smilin' Bobby (Chicago Blues elder), Mary Lane (Chicago Blues singer), Butch Trucks (drummer of the Allman Brothers Band), Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), Colonel Bruce Hampton, Kofi Burbridge (Tedeschi Trucks Band), and more. Some notable venues I've performed at include Antone's (Austin), The Continental Club (Austin and Houston), C Boy's Heart and Soul (Austin), Stubb's (Austin), The Fairmont (Austin), House of Blues (Chicago), Blues on Halsted (Chicago), Rosa's (Chicago), Kingston Mines (Chicago), Rio Grande Theatre (Las Cruces, NM) and many more (listed on the venues page). In addition to that, I studied guitar with Dave Manley (played with Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, The Roots, and more) and Mike Stern (played with Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, and more). I am currently furthering my studies with online classes from Berklee College of Music, and have been studying with guitarists such as Tim Miller, Norm Zocher, and many others.
I can work solo, join existing groups, or put together groups for single or recurring performances. I am available to record guitar parts for projects remotely or in-session with you/your band at your studio of choice. My group, The Danny Kerner Group, is also available for performances, events, etc. Aside from that, I offer guitar lessons for all ages and am familiar with many different musical styles, including rock, blues, jazz, funk, soul, fusion, jam-band, world, prog, etc. I am flexible with pricing and am willing to work out details on a case-by-case basis in both my work as a musician and as a music teacher.
